Today I went to the University of Melbourne to meet meet with Tony regarding the PhD confirmation process. I'd been meaning to do this for a while now but a letter from the University of Melbourne prompted me to get the process underway. One of the requirements is a 3000 word summary answering specific questions.

The meeting went well so we are planning for the confirmation to occur in December 2009. This document also asked me to specify when I would submit the thesis. The dates I gave were June 2011 for the initial submission and November 2011 for the final submission.

Metacognition was an issue that Tony encouraged me to ellaborate on. I mentioned that my own index.htm page has changed at least 20 times since commencing this thesis and that I had saved each version under a date-specific file name. These changes will be incorporated into a new animation I've started tonight called the "Index" animation.

Today I bought a digital voice recorder and my wife, Marlene, recorded the voice-over for my "Apostrophes" animation. This is the first animation I've made since my "Animating Best Practice" Masters thesis in 2007.

Rob, our new principal started last Monday. He seems to be very nice and has arranged for each staff member to have a 30 minute meeting with him during this coming week. My meeting is on Tuesday.

I received ethics approval today from DEECD. I mentioned this to Rob and suggested I table it at the next School Council meeting which is on Thursday 22nd October.

That digital recorder was a wise purchase. I've been taking it to school everyday and using it a lot more than I thought I would. There's nothing like a live recording to help children focus.

I attended my first School Council meeting tonight to explain my research. I handed out Cover letters, Plain Language Statements and Consent forms. These forms will go home to the Grade 6 parents later this term and I'll send home similar forms next year to the whole school.

I spoke with my supervisor, Tony, earlier in the week and he feels that I'm not ready for confirmation at this stage. I have a meeting with him and Julianne (my co-supervisor) in less than two weeks so I'm trying to get my "Apostrophes" and "Index" animations ready to show them.
